The Vanny Chronicles

A Fond Farewell

For those of you just tuning in, you don’t know about me without you having read something by the name of “The Vanny Chronicles”; but that ain’t no matter.

Sorry, I couldn’t resist. I’ve always been a sucker for Mark Twain, and Huckleberry Finn is a favorite of mine. I never could manage the cynicism Twain claimed, though. At heart I’ve always been hopeful.

I’ve dictated this to one of the people who type for me. If you’re reading it, I’ve scampered over the Rainbow Bridge to visit Boomer, Miss Kitty, and my other lost friends. I’m ok with it. I’ve led a long and happy life among friends. Far too few felines can say the same. My life has been a lucky one, and I am content.

Retiring From the Spotlight

As most of you know I’ve been feeling under the weather lately. I am nearly 15 years old, you know. If I were a human person I’d be about 76 years old. As such, I think it’s about time I took the opportunity to retire as the main feline writer here at the shelter. I need a little more time to myself to enjoy the autumn of my life.

What do cat noises mean?

Purr, hiss, chirp, snarl… yeah, I hear it all. And I’m sure you do too. What’s with all the different cat noises? What do they all mean?

Let’s take purring. Ahh…a joyous sound. It’s the most common sound that cats make. Most of us think of a content cat when we hear purring. And that is true. Kittens just a few hours old start purring as they knead their mother’s chest and nurse. But cats sometimes purr when in pain or near death. The reasons are not known, but some people think it may be to comfort themselves.

Thanks Giving

We kitties here at the shelter are truly blessed. I wanted to say a special thanks to all the volunteers who took time out of their holiday to come in today. Your generosity and kindness are truly heartening, this holiday season.

Thank you also to David DeGil and the Cyber Cool Cats for the catnip pizzas. They really made our day! Cat people are awesome.

Thank Ye!

Our fair shelter was recently visited by the Girlscouts of Silver Sage, Nampa Troup #31. They did a great job volunteering here and had one of the best bake sales I've ever seen. More than one human here walked around the rest of the day with a look of utter cookie-bliss.

These kind and responsible girls even saw fit to sponsor yours truly. I couldn't believe it. I am so grateful for their help, and lovingkindness.

You kids rock. Thanks so much! I hope we see you all again, very soon.

Humbly,

Vanny the Pirate Kitty
